(H021) Flamingo -
Color Chart
As you might suspect, I watch lots of nature shows and
devour wildlife magazines. One of my favorite birds is
the flamingo of the Kalahari. Visions of the scene in Out
of Africa come to mind; their flight in his bi-plane
over the flocks of flamingos with their wings
outstretched. Although there is no outward expression
of those wings in my flamingo, I am so mindful of their
power to transport this majestic bird long distances for
food, for water, for their young. |

(H022) Frog -
Color Chart
I'm watching a science program on time
travel. Appropriate for now as I write about my
frogs. I was just thinking about pollywogs. I
swam with some a few years ago in a lake full of large
future frogs - each one in different stages of change.
For a bit I got the chance to enter their world; a kind of
species travel, and in turn seeing all those different
stages at one time was like time travel.
The frog is tricky for me to hatch from one clay egg, but
that's the fun, the challenge - to take this clay egg and
literally pull an animal into being so all the lines of
color can flow too - as the form flows. |

(H023) Hermit Crab, Moon -
Color Chart
With all the empty "Guiltless Shells" floating
around my studio, it's only natural that some hermit crabs
would take up residence and find them to be an ideal
abode. It's fun for me to take a bit of colored clay
and bring to life these creatures I used to capture.
As with many of my sculptures, each hermit crab will have
its own distinct personality and look. This is one of
the reasons I enjoy the art form I'm doing; being able to
have original artwork that I can offer at a modest
price. This to me is a win-win situation. |

People love to watch me hatch my clay eggs into lifeforms. My website
is also like a clay egg - one I'm hatching right now.
